Day 5

Well-Being

One of the biggest challenges in our fast-paced culture is creating the space to take care of ourselves. Sometimes it feels like for every task crossed off the to-do list, two more get added. Trying to keep up with work, family, errands, meals, dishes, and everything else life throws our way can easily become overwhelming. We can very quickly get lost in all of it and drive ourselves to the point of exhaustion.

Whether job searching or working a committed job, you may be feeling this sense of overwhelming pressure, and struggling to find the motivation to keep pushing forward. That’s why it is crucial to create the time and the space to take care of yourself. When we choose not to practice self-care, we will likely end up “running on fumes”. This results in an exhausted mental and emotional state that will have us operating much less productively. That’s why it is important we take time to pause, take a deep breath, and rest.

Just like God set aside the Sabbath to rest after a week’s hard work, be sure to set aside time to rest, cast your anxieties on Him, and experience joy. Not only will this improve your emotional and mental state, but it will help you focus and be more productive in everything you do.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for reminding me to rest in the middle of a hectic and stressful schedule. Give me the strength and the faith to cast my anxieties on You, so I can take time for myself. Help me to perform with excellence as I work on the tasks you have placed in my life, and to find time to truly rest my heart, mind, and soul. Allow the peace of God to guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus as I go about my day.
