The dictionary defines connecting as “to bring together or into contact so that a real link is established.” In scripture, Jesus states that “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5 (NIV).
In this passage, Jesus speaks on how we must connect or “link” ourselves to Him. He creates a visual for the disciples by likening himself to the vine, which is the source, and using the branches to represent us. We understand that when a branch is separated from the vine, it cannot survive because it is separated from its primary source of nourishment.
The same principle is true in our personal and professional lives. In order for us to be productive on a job, with family, and in obtaining the desires of our heart, we must be connected to our source, Jesus. When we are disconnected from our power source, we can become drained and less productive, and therefore, unable accomplish our goals.
The beauty, however, is knowing that building a relationship with God is never far away. When we choose to connect, and fully abide in Christ as the scripture says, there is no struggle that we can’t handle and conquer and producing fruit will come easy. If you ever find yourself disconnected, incorporating prayer, daily reading of God’s Word, and connecting with like-minded individuals can help reconnect you to your Power source.
I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
