iWork Houston Hiring Expo Saw 512 Job Seekers!

On Tuesday, August 25, 512 job seekers and 52 participating employers gathered online for the virtual iWork Houston Hiring Expo!

After a welcome from Houston’s First Baptist Church Downtown Campus Pastor Lee Hsia and WorkFaith CEO Anthony Flynn, the event kicked off with praise and worship led by Marquist Taylor. Virtual attendees of the event then broke out into different online sessions, with classes such as LinkedIn Tips and Nailing the Virtual Interview. Job seekers also had the opportunity to speak directly with employers, such as Walgreens, Academy, McLane and M.D. Anderson, and to enter prayer rooms hosted by 89.3 KSBJ and 91.7 NGEN.

Next, Anthony Flynn moderated the Employer Panel, with Marqueshia Langham of Walmart, Denise Adeniran with the City of Houston, and Jerry Brown of New Hope Housing. These human resources professionals shared their experiences of hiring during a global pandemic and how COVID-19 has shaped the needs of their respective organizations.

The afternoon continued with a community partner spotlight with Vanessa Ramirez of WorkTexas at Gallery Furniture before the final breakout sessions with classes on Resume Writing and Dressing for Success. HR Houston supported the event with Virtual Mock Interviews and hosted a workshop on “How to Nail a Virtual Interview”. Attendees also had the chance to speak directly with WorkFaith’s team of job coaches and learn more about the programming WorkFaith offers to job seekers.

A huge thanks to all our sponsors, staff members and volunteers who helped to make the first iWork Houston Hiring Expo a great success! We look forward to our next hiring expo in 2021.
