WorkFaith Celebrates 20 Years of Transforming Lives Through the Power of Work and Faith

WorkFaith is proud to celebrate its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of equipping men and women in Houston with job skills grounded in Christ-centered principles, empowering individuals to find purpose, dignity, and sustainable employment.

Founded in 2006, WorkFaith began with a simple yet profound vision: to prepare individuals for the workforce while instilling values that strengthen families, communities, and the city.

“What started as a vision to equip people with job skills wrapped in Christ-like principles has grown into a movement that has transformed thousands of lives,” said Matt Killian, CEO of WorkFaith.

Over the past 20 years, WorkFaith has demonstrated resilience and adaptability through economic downturns, shifting job markets, and the challenges of a global pandemic. Through innovation and perseverance, the organization has remained steadfast in its mission, meeting people where they are and preparing them for lasting success.

The impact of that mission is significant. In 2007, WorkFaith trained approximately 200 individuals. By 2025, that reach had grown to 13,167 individuals trained in a single year. During that same year, more than 6,000 jobs were obtained by WorkFaith clients at an average wage of $19.07 per hour, generating over $120 million in collective wages, helping families put food on the table, reducing poverty, and enabling individuals to move off government assistance.

“When everyone works, Houston thrives,” Killian added. “Our work over the last 20 years has strengthened neighborhoods, families, and businesses across the city.”

WorkFaith credits its success to the collective efforts of its clients, partners, supporters, and volunteers. Strategic partnerships with organizations such as Star of Hope, Open Door Mission, and Mission of Yahweh have expanded the organization’s reach and reinforced its commitment to second chances.

“Our clients are the heartbeat of this organization,” said Killian. “Their courage to rewrite their future, rediscover purpose, and break free from cycles of hardship inspires us every day.”

As WorkFaith looks ahead, the organization remains focused on expanding its impact and inviting the community to be part of the next chapter.

“This anniversary is both a celebration and a call to action,” Killian said. “We invite the community to volunteer, donate, or share their story. Together, we are proving that work and faith can change the world.”

Who the Next 20 Years Will Serve

WorkFaith serves people from GED to PhD, and everything in between, across every stage of work and life.

We deeply support second-chance individuals rebuilding after incarceration, homelessness, or major life transitions, while also equipping professionals, from entry-level to executive leadership, who are navigating change or growth.

Together with our partners, we prepare today’s workforce and invest in the next generation, because access to meaningful work should never be limited by circumstance.

This is workforce development that meets people where they are, and walks with them toward what’s next.

Why Now Matters

This moment matters because the need is real and growing.

The workforce is changing. Technology is accelerating. Transitions are happening faster and more often. People are searching not just for jobs, but for stability, purpose, and belonging.

Together, we build and invest in the Next 20.

The foundation has been laid. The mission is clear. The future is ours to steward together.

Where WorkFaith Is Headed

The next chapter of WorkFaith is both focused and expansive. We are going deeper in Houston, strengthening the programs, partnerships, and pathways that allow individuals to move forward with dignity, purpose, and opportunity. At the same time, we are expanding our reach, sharing what has been built here with partners and communities who believe work can be meaningful and faith can be lived out in the marketplace. This is not growth for growth’s sake. It is growth rooted in calling, experience, and stewardship.
